THE REEF

Today I jumped off the side of a 50-year-old wooden ship to swim around with Nemo fish, a stingray and a 3-foot turtle. Oh, and lots and lots of coral. Did you know you can see the Great Barrier Reef from the MOON? Anyways, I subsequently (simultaneously?) I snorted about 5 gallons of the Pacific Ocean through my snorkel, watched a whale do a flip, chortled through Captain Doug's rendition of what Australian people do when unemployed (say "Argggg" and drink boxed wine called Goon), and met a crazy Scotsman named Scott. True story.

Amending my plans for a week in Brisbane. I think I might do a car share with folks heading south along the coast, and stop at Arlie Beach and Fraser Island instead.

Definitely do Airlie Beach and Fraser Island.

Airlie Beach is sort of just a beach town, a little touristy (but touristy for Australians, not for foreigners, so it's better), and we went there to go to the reef, which you've already done...

But Fraser Island is awesome. It's all-sand! And there's all these weird plants and trees that are indigenous to there, because they grow in sand. Also a really cool big shipwreck. I'll send a photo!

OK, just sent photos. I'm all excited now.

But I forgot to mention, stop by Surfers Paradise in Queensland if you can. If memory serves, it's a little south of Brisbane. Awesome beautiful miles-long sandy beaches, and good night-life.
